There are two primary improvements that we would like to make to the Staff Directory search. Although related, they each address separate issues.
1. Widening the search criteria
Currently users are only able to use the search box to search by first and last name. Finding users by office, department, skill or location happens currently by clicking on an office in the offices list, or clicking a location in a user profile, for example. We want to improve the search box functionality by allowing users to type the name, or a portion of the name of an office (for example) to find people in that office.
2. Expanding the search results
Currently the search results only displays people. While the primary function of the Staff Directory is to find people, we acknowledge that certain users might want to see office and department names listed in the search results (clickable of course), and not just the people in those offices and departments.
We will also expand the search results to include 'ask me about' topics and skills.
We also want to include location based information in the search results, so searching for 'Tok' for example will return all people who are currently located in Tokyo or who work in the Tokyo office.
